Our Kiwanis club raises funds fo provide backpacks filled with school supplies for the kids of Nevada.
YSS Backpack Program
Our club provides backpacks, toiletries, food, water, blankets, hand and toe warmers to Youth and Shelter Services. YSS distributes these items to homeless people in Story County during their Point in Time Survey during January.
Nevada High School College Scholarships
Our Kiwanis club funds our high school scholarship program through the proceeds from our can and bottle recycling project.
Feeding the Hungry
Our Kiwanis club supports local efforts to feed our citizens by volunteering and providing funds to Nevada First United Methodist Church Food at First program, our Little Free Pantry, Nevada Middle School Cubbies Cupboard, and the NevadaCommunity Cupboard.
Harmony Clothing Closet
Our club supports the efforts of the free clothing store, Harmony Clothing Closet, through donations and volunteering.
Kiwanis K-Kids
We are very proud of our award winning Kiwanis K-Kids group which meets at Central Elementary in Nevada. The K-Kids are very active with service learning projects.
Can and Bottle Recycling
One of our biggest fundraising projects! Members take turns sorting cans and bottles and hauling them to our local redemption center!
Sleep in Heavenly Peace 2025 Program
The Nevada Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a bedding drive for the Ames Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace during the month of February, 2025.
Their mission is “NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!” and is an organization that builds and delivers beds to children in need of a bed and a safe place to sleep. Kiwanis is collecting new twin sheet sets, blankets, mattress pads, and pillows.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace has been building and delivering beds to children and youth in Ames and Nevada since November of 2023.
Donation boxes will be located at Fareway, State Bank, First Interstate Bank, Availa Bank, City Hall, and Story County Medical.
Please help us help Sleep in Heavenly Peace provide beds and bedding for children in our community so that “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.” Thank you!

Kiwanis Committees
Kiwanis Board of Directors – The Board of Directors ensures smooth club operations, leads club initiatives, and creates and upholds the club’s vision. Board tasks are related to administration, decision making, and strategic planning. Included tasks are: setting the annual budget, assuring compliance with applicable governmental rules and regulations, Implementing club policies, keeping the strategic plan current, assuring the club is meeting its financial obligations, and any other duties as assigned to the board by the bylaws and policies.
Kiwanis Club Committee – The Club committee is responsible for providing the most effective club meeting possible. Areas of focus should include the club meeting program, risk management, reception, fellowship. and inter club relations, as well as other areas the committee may deem pertinent.
Kiwanis Community Committee – The Community Service committee should implement projects on the arts, business affairs, citizenship, civic improvement, community beautification, conservation, health, international understanding, literacy, public affairs, safety or help for senior citizens and disabled persons.
Kiwanis Kids Committee – This committee shall devise ways and means to establish and support Kiwanis Kids clubs , Builders Clubs, Key Clubs, Circle K clubs, and Aktion Clubs. This committee should encourage and promote the activities of all Aktion Clubs, Kiwanis Kids, Builders Clubs, Key Clubs and Circle K clubs sponsored by the club. The committee should include Kiwanis club advisors. The committee should also implement projects for children, prenatal through five. Projects can address maternal and child health, childcare, early development, nutrition, parenting education, and support, advocacy, pediatric trauma, or safety.
Kiwanis Membership Committee – The Membership committee strives to increase the membership according to the standards provided in the bylaws. The committee should consider all membership applications and submit its recommendation the board of directors. The committee also should develop an effective orientation and induction ceremony for new members and promote the regular attendance by all members at club meetings.
